Well, hello again, blog! It's been awhile since I've been able to catch a breath to write anything for awhile. Summer has been crazy busy with work and 4-H stuff for my girls. I have missed you, fellow blog!
Suck it up buttercup... this was running through my head today and by coincidence, I found this exact same phrase on a recent post on a blog that I follow and hadn't read for awhile. So I'm thinking this is God's message to me today!
Have you ever had one of those days where bedtime can't come quick enough? You want to rewind, get up, and start over again? Yeah, well, today just so happened to be that day for this country girl. And let's just say it started bright and early this morning. My oldest daughter is now in middle school and gets on the bus over 2 hours earlier then she used to for elementary school. It was one of "those mornings" and her crankiness tried to spill over on to me. Notice I said "tried." It didn't happen, and I was not going to allow it to. Granted, I am not a morning person, and probably never will be. So this is challenging for me some days. I wake up each morning, grateful for another day to be alive and well, and tell myself that I will have a good day. I even said to myself that I was going to have one of those days, and I was right! The majority of my day wasn't too bad, until I was 5 minutes from home.
I saw something I've never seen before. My car's 'service engine soon' light came on for the first time I have ever seen since I've owned it. I arrived to pick up the kids just in time to smell something to do with antifreeze. I am completely non-car-mechanical (that was a fun word to make up), so I instructed my mechanic in the family to go take a look at his next victim. He fired up the engine only to see white smoke rolling from the exhaust pipe and the smell of a hot engine sifting through the air. Strike one, strike two! I did not want to know what strike three was going to be. My poor baby will have to sit for a few days until the diagnosis is made. That will give me and my truck some bonding time since it's not my favorite primary vehicle to drive. I guess there goes my paycheck for gas the next few days at 10 miles to the gallon!
So after the initial shock of my daily driver coughing and hacking out some nasty stuff, I decided to tackle the rest of the night. The first thing I did when I got in my house was attempted to put the groceries away. A bag fell from my hand and I heard CRASH! Oops.... guess the brand new light bulbs I got today were no longer usable. Just grand... Next, my front door decided to jam itself shut. Sigh, what next? I wasn't sure I really wanted to know. The next hour passed uneventful until one child was sick to her stomach. Then the other did not want to go to bed at normal bedtime. She was hungry, she was thirsty, she ran out of drink and needed more, she had to potty, she wanted another hug and kiss, sigh....
Is it morning yet?
No, it's not so I guess I will continue writing on this blog :). I have always said that we have bad days, and we have our good days. Well, if today was a bad day, tomorrow has to be better. Right? I certainly pray that it is a better day! Was it a coincidence that 'suck it up buttercup' kept bouncing around in my head today? Nah, it was a clear message from God himself to literally suck it up. I need to hold my head up and look forward because better things are to come. The car will soon be fixed, the broken glass was cleaned up, the little things that went wrong today are just that. Little things that won't matter in a week, or a month from now. So here is to a better day tomorrow, and hopefully the rest of the week too! At least tomorrow is the end of the month and with September not only comes a new month, but a new season too.
Since my little ones are in bed and my house is too quiet, this buttercup hears Zumba calling her name. So off I go to suck it up and burn some calories all at the same time! Remember to live and love happy :)

A Good Idea... or Not?
I receive a daily e-mail that compiles ideas sent in by people on random things such as how to save money, conserve energy, or be thrifty about certain things. Well they are numerous posts that will send in a picture of their pet and want to know the breed, or people will want to know how to do something, or might be looking for a certain recipe, or whatever they feel like asking the rest of the internet world. Well, one of the ideas posted today was a tip to help you not get lost in the parking lot. Read below:
Take Cell Picture of the Parking Lot Location of your Car
If you've ever tried to return to your car after shopping, and couldn't remember where you parked, then you'll appreciate this simple tip, so you won't spend precious time trying to find your car in a sea of others. Just take your cell phone out, snap a picture showing your location and shop 'til you drop knowing you won't be frantically trying to locate your car--especially in cold or rainy weather. An added advantage of not having to wander around searching is the safety issue. You need to get safely into your car as soon as possible.
Hmmm... so my first reaction to the post was I had to laugh because I did this just a couple months ago. If you need a refresher, click HERE.
Ok so while the author of this idea has a good idea for some, this would NEVER work for me! First of all, my cell phone is full of pictures and songs so I wouldn't have room on my phone to even take a picture of my car in the parking lot. And can you picture that? I mean really take a second to think about that - if a person got out of their car, stood back and was taking a picture of their car, what would you think about that person? My opinion would be is that they were a little wacky, but I would just walk past them and hope the cooky person didn't follow me. The next problem with taking the picture of a car in the parking lot is the fact that a parking lot is a parking lot. To me all the rows look the same and so even if I took a picture of my car, I wouldn't be able to tell what row it was in. And it's not like you can take a picture of the cars around you because there is a good chance those cars will be replaced by a different vehicle when you come out of the store.
Now I will give the author credit and say the person has a good idea about being safe in a parking lot. I make a habit when I am by myself to always have my keys in hand, finger ready to hit my car alarm if needed. I always lock my doors when I get in my car, then get moving as soon as possible. I don't sit there and organize my purse or write down my receipts in my check book, etc. I get the car in reverse so I can be on my merry way on to my next destination. I also pay attention to my surroundings and am cautious about people in a car parked beside mine. And if it is dark, I try to park under a security light. And most important, I usually have my cell phone in my pocket. That is my normal habit to carry my phone in my pocket, but I would at least have easy access to it in case of emergency. And that is what I do to be safe in a parking lot!
Now for my tip to finding your car in the parking lotyou know since I've had lots of experience losing my car when I come out of the store ~ I have gotten in the habit of looking at the row number that I park in. Our lovely local Wal-Mart has a sign up with the rows numbered so all I have to do is make a mental note of what row I am and then my blonde butt is covered!

Please Say A Prayer
Please add this man and his family to your prayer list. There was a couple en route from New York to Indiana because the man was scheduled to be best man in a wedding today. I do not know details but they had a terrible accident while traveling. The man is in critical condition and his wife was killed in the accident. Please say a prayer for him, his family and his wife's family. It's a sad situation. It goes to show again how we never know what God has planned for us. And when it is our time to come home, he calls us one by one. The pain of dealing with a wreck such as that and the shock of sudden death is very hard and almost unbearable for those closest to the victim.
I cannot say I have been affected directly by a wreck such as that, but I did know a couple with an only child who was killed in the summer of 2000. They were on their way to pick up their daughter and were hit head on by a driver that crossed the center line. The mother was killed instantly and the father died while being life lined to the hospital. Their daughter was 9 years old and didn't fully understand what happened. I wasn't super close the family but I knew the mom and the daughter through my former employer and showing horses. They were sweet people. I will never forget when I heard the name of who had been killed. I was driving to work the next morning and they announced the name and I thought I heard it wrong. Nope, after making a few phone calls, I had heard the name right. And my life has never been the same since. I remember going to the calling hours of this couple. The little girl pointed to the casket on the left and said "there is my mom" and to the casket on the right and said "there is my dad." WOW talk about heart break and fighting back tears.
My life has never been the same since that crash. I became terrified to drive for awhile even though I had to still drive to work and home everyday. I became terrified to let anyone drive with my daughter in their car. I would make them call when they got to their destination. I had the fear of putting her in her carseat in another vehicle and never seeing her again. I have since gotten better about that fear but I can say my worst fear is probably driving. And if I see a wreck or pass by a car that has been wrecked, I freak out for a moment. I cannot look at a wrecked car without my body going into shock for a minute.
Please say a prayer for the man who is in the hospital and for the wife who was called above. And for their family and friends because they are the ones most affected by this tragedy. And take the opportunity to say a prayer for another day on earth and live it to the fullest! You never know when your time will come...
